As the economy slumped, so did many credit scores as people lost jobs, values on homes plummeted and stock market shares declined. If your credit score suffered during this time, there is a solution to rebuilding your credit;a prepaid credit card. Unlike most credit cards, a prepaid card only allows you to spend the amount of money that is on the card, protecting you from unwanted overdraft fees and extra bills.

Many prepaid credit cards come with features such as direct deposit, where your paycheck or government issued check can be directly deposited into the card, much like a checking account. Some cards allow you to load the cards with cash at certain retail locations.

To use a prepaid credit card, you simply use the card at any store that accepts debit transactions. Each time you use the card, you are building your credit. You can pay bills online using your card or set up automatic withdrawals for bill pay purposes. You can reserve a hotel room or rent a car. You can pay for gas at the station or use the card at any ATM.

Another advantage of a prepaid credit card is that it can help you avoid future debt. Because the card is loaded with a certain amount of money, you know that you must stay within your budget in order for the card to work. Many prepaid credit cards have an online account feature that allows you to track your spending. For many people, staying out of debt and working to resolve their current debt is the only way they have to rebuild their credit scores.

Bad credit is one of the worse threats to our economy since terrorism, according to the National Association of Business Economy. A Prepaid Credit Card is a solution to that threat.
